Movie Review: Bolt

I forgot to mention that we saw Bolt last weekend! It's in 3-D and you might recognize the voices of John Travolta (as Bolt, "the dog"... Grease was awesome baby!), Miley Cyrus (as Penny, "the girl"... Gwen was pretty excited about this- go Hannah Montana!), Malcolm McDowell (as Dr. Calico, "the evil English guy"... heh, I always remember him from Fantasy Island, the 1998-1999 TV series), James Lipton (as "the director"... you know, the guy on Inside The Actors Studio that does all the celebrity interviews?) and, last but not least, Diedrich Bader (as "the snotty kitty"... yeah, the not very bright guy from The Drew Carey Show).

Bolt is a dog who plays a dog (hah, get it?!) in Hollywood movies and has all of these special powers. He is kept away from the "real world" where everyone on the movie set treats him like he is still the same dog with powers even when he's off set... the director thinks by doing this Bolt will be more believable in movies (hm, maybe a nod to method acting?). In one of the movies, Bolt's "person" (that's how they explain it in the movie!) Penny is captured. So, Bolt of course believes this is real and runs away trying to find her, while winding up in New York City and has to get back home to Penny. Along the way, he meets a pessimistic, but smart and lovable kitty, Mittens, and a pudgy, energetic and sweet hamster named Rhino (hah, perfect name for him btw!) and Bolt finally learns from their adventures what it's like to live in the real world. Warning... spoiler (heh): Bolt finds Penny and everyone lives happily ever after!

Ok, both Mikey and Gwen (of course!) were really looking forward to this movie, but to tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting too much going into the theater. So, I was surprised when I started to enjoy it! Alot of the jokes actually made me laugh (out loud, even!), but I think the best part is definitely the hamster... to me, he really did make the movie. For the record, Mikey and Gwen really liked it too!

FYI, you can click the poster of Bolt to go directly to the official website and the picture of Rhino will take you to Fandango.com if you'd like to view more pictures of the movie!
